Baqa'a camp is the largest Palestinian refugee camp in Jordan. It is one of the six camps that were set up with the help of the United Nations to provide emergency residence to Palestinians who left the West Bank and Gaza Strip due to the 1967 Arab-Israeli war.
The camp is located about 20 km north of Amman, the capital of Jordan. From 5,000 tents to over 8,000 prefabricated shelters to more durable concrete dwelling, Baqa'a camp is a place of residence for around 100,000 refugees. With clattered houses, narrow streets, absence of trees and open spaces, Baqa'a camp is home for 43,083 kids aged 15 and under. Thanks to the efforts of UNRWA, the camp operates 16 elementary/preparatory schools, 2 medical centers, two sports clubs, a woman's club and a rehabilitation center for people with disabilities. There is only one playground for the territory of 1.4 square kilometers of concrete structures, absense of open spaces and minimal vegetation.
